Age 79, and a life-long resident of Coal City, died Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Morris.

Born August 1st, 1938 in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Kelly) Anderson. Pat was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1956.  She attended Illinois State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  Some of Pat’s most cherished memories included her time spent in Hawaii completing a semester of classes for her degree.  On February 20th, 1971 she married Richard Planeta in the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet.  Pat spent many years as an educator including the role of Kindergarten teacher at Braidwood Elementary School.  She retired in 2003.  Pat was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and enjoyed singing in the choir.

Survivors include her children, Karyn (Tim) O’Hara, Medina, WA, Michael Planeta and David Planeta, both of Coal City; grandchildren, Katherine O’Hara, Elizabeth O’Hara, William O’Hara and Emmitt Planeta; her beloved cousin Mary Ann (Michael) Cusick of Naperville; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Planeta; her parents, James and Margaret Anderson; and one brother, David Anderson.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 110 S. School Street in Braidwood at 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen presiding.

Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at 1:00 p.m., where Patricia will be laid to rest with her husband Richard.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in her memory to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
