Norman P. Mattes
Age 95 of Wilmington, passed away Saturday evening, August 6, 2016 at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox.
Born February 18, 1921 in Chicago, Norman was a son of Gus and Lena (Thomas) Mattes. He was raised in Chicago, and graduated from Parker High School. Norman went on to honorably serve in the United States Army. His career was with Goldblatt’s Department Store in Chicago, from where he retired as one of their buyers. Norman cherished his family, and it always remained his number one priority.
Survivors include his son Scott Mattes of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Deborah (James) Hogan of Wilmington; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his brother-in-law Dave (the late Helen) Olson of Wheaton; sister-in-law Virginia (the late Don) Baker of Indianapolis, Indiana, and beloved family friends Billy (Erin) Ward of Wilmington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret Teresa (nee Brandmeyer); his daughter-in-law Lorene; two brothers: Bill and Harold and two sisters: Stella and Fern.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and military honors will be rendered at the Veteran's Memorial Park, 600 N. Williams Street in Wilmington on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
