Norma Marie Tarran
Age 93 of Wilmington, passed away Sunday May 27, 2012 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home in Joliet.
Born April 18, 1919 in Gardner, Norma was a daughter of the late Jens and Methe Hansen-Christensen. She was raised and educated in Gardner, and graduated from Gardner-South Wilmington High School with the class of 1937. On March 10, 1951, Norma married Chris Tarran in Dwight, and together they lived most of their married life in Wilmington.
Norma owned and operated The Mar Beauty Salon, and was the beautician and hairdresser for the Soldier's Widows Home in Wilmington. She was later employed as office manager for the Wilmington Advocate, until retiring in 1976. Norma will be remembered as a long time Avon Representative, who achieved President's Club status for being a top seller. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington, The VFW Ladies Auxiliary and The Wilmington Historical Society. In Norma's free time, she was an avid reader, and treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her son: Christopher "Skip" (Bonnie) Tarran of Wilmington; grandchildren: Jill (the late Chris) McCubbin, Scott Tarran and Patrick Tarran; great grandchildren: Mya and Cade McCubbin; brother-in-law: Donald McCormick of Mazon; sister-in-law: Leah Christensen of Gardner; nieces and nephews: Sandy (Arden) Humbert, Lynn (Steve) Terry, Kathleen (Al) Terry, Roberta (the late Ian) Seally, Pat (the late Ray) Zawrazky, Mark McCormick, Tim (Cindy) Tarran, Teresa (Mitch) Myers and Bill (Florence) Dvorak, as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews and several cousins.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Chris Tarran; brothers: Robert and Lloyd Christensen; sister-in-law: Arlene Christensen and great nephew: Mike Seally.
Visitation will be held Wednesday May 30, 2012 between the hours of 2:00PM and 8:00PM and again on Thursday May 31st from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 10:00AM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Reverend Guy Warke from Grace Lutheran Church in Wilmington will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington with Scott Tarran, Patrick Tarran, Mark McCormick, Tim Tarran, Tom Crutchfield and Stan Smith acting as pallbearers, and Al Terry, Steve Terry and Arden Humbert as honorary pallbearers.
