Nancy J. Madding
(nee Cracraft)
Age 84 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully, Saturday June 23, 2012 at her home surrounded by family.
Born September 18, 1927 in Wilmington, Nancy was a daughter of the late Charles Herbert and Grace Douglas Wright-Cracraft. She was raised in the rural areas of Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1945. Nancy worked for APSA at the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant for 20 years and enjoyed volunteering for many years at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno. She was a lifetime member of Church of the New Jerusalem, and in past years loved gardening, quilting and painting. Nancy will be remembered for her canning, and memorable times camping with her children and step-children. She could often be found working crossword puzzles and in recent years cherished time spent playing cards with friends and family.
Survivors include her children: Rev. J. Hugh Odhner (Denise) of Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, Kristina "Tina" Smock of Braidwood and Lindy J. Nunley (Robert) of Wilmington; special step-son: Ralph "Andy" Madding (Linda) of Joliet, as well as other step-children: Barbara, Beverly, Sandy, Ronald, Diane and Dennis; nine grandchildren: Annika Odhner, Kachina Odhner-Griffith (Kevin), Capt. Bronwyn Odhner, US Army, Kirsti Bauer (Brian), Carrie Mance (Sean), Andrea Coldwell (Jorge), Stacie Odhner-Sibley (Adrian), Nick Nunley (Beth) and Aaron Nunley; thirteen great grandchildren: Naiya, Connor, Shane, Sarah, Hannah, Gianna, Mia, Noah, Madigan, Owen, Anthony, Carter and Aaliyah and two sisters-in-law: Elaine Cracraft of Wilmington and Janice Cracraft of Shorewood, as well as her feline companion Possey.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph Madding; three sisters: Virginia Kimball, Shirley Rose and Edith Pabor and two brothers: Herbert Cracraft and Larry Cracraft.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday June 28, 2012 at 11:30AM at the Wilmington VFW, 557 West Baltimore Street (Illinois Route 53) in Wilmington. Nancy's son Reverend J. Hugh Odhner will officiate. A luncheon with memorial visitation will immediately follow the services, continuing until 2:00PM.
Private family inurnment will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, where Nancy will be laid to rest with her late husband Ralph.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Nancy's memory to the Illinois Veteran's Home, one Veteran's Drive, Manteno, Illinois 60950.
