Age 92 of Coal City, passed away Saturday evening, September 24, 2016 at Heritage Health in Dwight.

Born February 16, 1924 in Coal City, Michael John was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Fornelli) Macketta. On January 9, 1960, he married Eveyln McLuckie in Assumption Catholic Church, and she preceded him in death on October 8, 1969. Sonny later went on to marry Mae Pogliano on January 3, 1981, and she survives. He was a lifelong farmer and served on the Felix Township Board, Coal City Fire Department, and Coal City High School Board. Sonny was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, and will be remembered for his love of reading and watching Westerns. Sonny was also proud of his original Ford tractor, which he restored and maintained in operation.

Survivors include his wife Mae Macketta; daughter Patti (the late Michael W.) Christensen; granddaughters: Keeley (Josh) Senn and Michelle Christensen; step-children: Robert (Linda) Pogliano, Jim Pogliano, Pat Brown-Dube (Pierre), William (Sharon) Pogliano, Donald Pogliano (Connie), and Carol Talty (Kurt Budde); step-grandchildren: Bobby, Danny, Billy, Rachael, Ben, Ryan and Tyler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Evelyn; son-in-law: Michael W. Christensen; two brothers: James and Joe Macketta, and four sisters: Lorraine "Dolly" Macketta, Margaret Henke, Marie Williamson and Christine "Tina" Henke.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Reverend Robert Noesen from Assumption Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Sonny will be laid to rest with his first wife Evelyn.

Pallbearers will be: Josh Senn, Ben Pogliano, Billy Pogliano, Bobby Pogliano, John Christensen and Joe Holohan. Honorary pallbearers will be: Ryan Talty and Tyler Talty.

Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Sonny's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
