Merle Wesley Cagley
Age 82 of Gardner, passed away Thursday June 26, 2014 at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Born May 29, 1932 in Odell, Merle Wesley is a son of the late Henry Merle and Bernice (Harsted) Cagley. He was raised in LaSalle County and on March 24, 1951, Merle married Wanda Nell Goldman in Cornell. He was a member of the Teamsters and retired from Yellow Freight. Merle also drove a school bus in Coal City for special needs children. Merle enjoyed working with the Amish and their horses in Arthur, Illinois; took pleasure in rebuilding tractors, and will be remembered for his regular rides around Gardner.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Wanda; sons: Michael Cagley of Gardner, Rick (Patricia) Cagley of Mazon and Terry (Cheryl) Cagley of Willow Springs, North Carolina; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister Rose (Ted) McDonald of Streator and numerous nieces and nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by his parents; son Bill Cagley and two sisters: Marcella Janney and Marge Geiger.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 1:30 p.m. until time of memorial service 2:30 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Inurnment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, where Merle will be laid to rest by his son.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Merle's memory to the Heritage Health 300 E. Mazon Avenue, Dwight, Illinois 60420.
