Melvin Warriner
Age 94 of Wilmington, passed away Monday evening October 26, 2015.
Born September 10, 1921 in Ritchie, Melvin Oliver was a son of the late Charles J. and Florence (Griffith) Warriner. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and on May 4, 1946, Melvin married Lorraine Catherine Smith in the Ritchey United Methodist Church. He worked for the Joliet Arsenal and later retired from US Steel. Melvin was a member of the American Legion in Wilmington, Plainfield and in Arkansas. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, carpentry and farming.
Survivors include his wife Lorraine; two children: Edward Clifton Warriner and Carol A. Thomason; (14) grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; (6) brothers; (5) sisters; one great grandson and one great-great grandson.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and the family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date in Wesley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made as gifts in Melvin's memory to the Wilmington American Legion Post 191, 557 West Baltimore Street, Wilmington, IL 60481 or to the Plainfield American Legion Marne Post 13, 24741 West Renwick Road, Plainfield, Illinois 60544 .
