Melvin John Dearth
Age 78 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday October 28, 2008 at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet..
Born November 17, 1929 in Coal City, Melvin was the son of the late Melvin and Margaret Darin-Dearth. He was raised and educating in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1947. Melvin was a Veteran and served our Country in the United States Marines. On October 07, 1950 Melvin married Faye Tarman in the Coal City Methodist Church and together they lived their entire married life in Coal City. He worked for more than 45 years as a truck driver for Coal City Trucking, which was a family business, until his retirement in 1991. Melvin was a former member of the Coal Valley Old Timers Baseball Association, served on the board of directors for Coal City Little League Baseball and was past president of the Coal City Music Boosters. Melvin enjoyed wintering in Florida and loved watching his granddaughters play softball.
Survivors include his loving wife Faye; one son Tim (Pam) Dearth of Coal City; Three granddaughters: Alison (Roger) D'Orazio, Laura Dearth and Megan (Steve) VandeWerken, all of Coal City; Two great grandchildren: Calleigh VandeWerken and Brody D'Orazio and four sisters-in-law: Wilma (the late Elvin) Davy of Coal City, Betty (Bill) Minck of Ohio and Lynne (the late Richard) Tarman and Rita (the late Bob) Tarman, both of Coal City.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents.
Per Mel's wishes, private family graveside services will be held in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery at a later date.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Melvin's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
