Melody Ann Jonasen

Age 59 of Minooka and formerly of the Berwyn and Cicero area, passed away Saturday January 10, 2015 at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois.

Born April 27, 1955 in Chicago, Melody is a daughter of Laverne Messina (nee Matthews) of Countryside and the late Gennaro Messina, Sr. She was raised and educated in Chicago and Cicero, and went on to later earn her nursing degree. Melody honorably served in the United States Army and was employed as a nurse at Manor Care in Oak Lawn. She was a member of Living Stones Community Church in Channahon and will be remembered for her love of shopping and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her mother Laverne; husband Kevin, whom she married May 3, 2013; children: Stephanie (Joseph) Kaczmarek of Plainfield, Steven (Lucia) Roden of Berwyn, Shawn Roden (Marie Lukes) of Montgomery, Scott (Joshua) Eremia-Roden of North Carolina, Shane Roden of Cicero and Sara Roden of Japan; grandchildren: Chanel and Chloe Kaczmarek, Shawn Stotler, and Geanni and Natalia Roden, with another expected; her Goddaughter Christine Schwerin, and siblings: Gennaro, Jr. (Norma) Messina of Arizona, Laura (Vincent) Schwerin of Stickney, Cheryl (Richard) Karas of Berwyn, and Anthony (Amy) Messina and Frank (Michele) Messina both of Chicago, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Melody was preceded in death by her father Gennaro Messina Sr. and one sister Deborah Messina

The family will receive friends at Living Stones Community Church, 25124 South Fryer Avenue in Channahon on Wednesday January 14, 2015 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Melody's life will follow Thursday morning January 15th in the church at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Joe Pospischil will officiate and burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Pallbearers will be: Steven Roden, Shawn Roden, Scott Roden, Shane Roden, Gennaro Messina, Jr. and Anthony Messina.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Melody's memory to the American Cancer Society.
