Maxine Strobel
Age 98, a longtime resident of Rosewood Care Center in Joliet, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010.
Born July 19, 1912 in Streator, Maxine was a daughter of the late Allen Burdette and Edna Marshall-McGill. On March 10, 1934, Maxine married Edward "Barney" Strobel in the Ransom United Methodist Church and Edward preceded Maxine in death on December 15, 1998. Maxine truly loved Arizona, where she lived from 1971 until returning to the area in 2000. She was a huge fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team and enjoyed major league baseball in general. She loved flowers and was an avid reader in past years.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Maxine's 'Rosewood Family', for their love and care over the years, and to Vitas Hospice for the extraordinary care and attention rendered to their mother and grandmother during her final days.
Survivors include: two children: Doug (Fran) Strobel and Sheri Friddle both of Wilmington; six grandchildren: Rev. Scott (Renee') Strobel of Lockport, New York, Sandra (Ron) VanEpps of Glenview, Amy (Pat) Burke of Macomb, Lisa (Shale) Susin of Naperville, Teri (Mike) Stumpo of San Diego, California and Todd Friddle of Wilmington; fourteen great grandchildren: Doug, Mike, Tim, Wesley, Jacob, Annika, Kaitlyn, Krista, Zach, Joe, Eddie, Allison, Emma and Makena; one sister-in-law: Margaret McGill of Minonk and several nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edward "Barney"; two sisters: Jean Hubert and Georgia Lehman, and one brother Russell McGill.
Visitation and video tribute will be held Tuesday, September 7th between the hours of 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm and Wednesday September 8th from 9:30 am until time of funeral service 11:00 am at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Rt. 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington. Maxine's grandson Reverend Scott Strobel will officiate the services and burial will follow in Allen Township Cemetery in Ransom.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Maxine's memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 South Main Street, Wilmington, Illinois 60481 or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
