Maxine E. Shirtino

Age 88 of Coal City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening December 21, 2016 at Heritage Health in Dwight.

Born September 4, 1928 in Joliet, Maxine Ernestine was a daughter of the late Peter and Nettie (Serena) Murphy. She was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1946. Maxine waitressed for many years at her mother's restaurant in Coal City, as well as at Sam's Snackbar and at several establishments in Joliet. She was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, where she was involved with the Mother's Club when her children were growing up.

Survivors include three children: Rae Lynn (Dale) Santerelli of Morris, Jerry (Cathy) Shirtino of Coal City and Jackie (Steve) Sharp of Cordova, Tennessee; (8) grandchildren: Shellie Santerelli of Ottawa, Jerry (Chrissy) Santerelli of Plainfield, Brian Santerelli, Jerry (McKenna) Shirtino and Danielle (Tyler) Valiente all of Coal City, Kris Sharp of Cordova, Tennessee, Samantha (Justin) Smith of Ft. Hood, Texas and Raegan Sharp of Cordova, Tennessee, and three great grandchildren: Kendall, Erin and Brendon, with another expected.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brother Raymond and husband Gerald R. Shirtino.

Per Maxine's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and memorial service will be held at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. The family will then receive friends for a memorial visitation following the service until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maxine will be laid to rest in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery with her late husband at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Maxine's memory to the Heritage Health of Dwight Activities Department, Hospice of Kankakee Valley or to Tender Loving Care Pet Rescue.
