Age 88 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday evening September 13, 2011 at The Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.

Born October 1, 1922 in Leon, Decatur County, Iowa, Maurice was a son of the late Lawrence and Olive Coontz- Barry. He honorably served in the Unites States Coast Guard, and was employed by the Rock Island Railroad as a signalman. Maurice was a member of Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington and a charter member of the New Lenox VFW. He will be remembered as a Chicago Cubs fan who loved listening to the games on the radio, and also greatly enjoyed the Chicago Black Hawks.

Survivors include: four Children: Sandra (Richard) Quigley of New Lenox, Scott Barry of Joliet, Steve (Cathy) Barry of New Lenox and Syd (Denise) Barry of Wilmington; eight grandchildren: Shawn (Michelle) Quigley, Jason (Tiara) Quigley, Bryan Quigley, Kevin Quigley, Megan Barry, Jennifer Rush, Steven Barry and Michael Barry; five great grandchildren: Tyler Quigley, Hannah Quigley, Taylor Rhodes, Gavin Rush and Brody Rush; one sister: Mary Kelly of Burr Ridge; one sister-in-law: Dorothy Gable of Joliet and as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Maurice was preceded in death by his wife: Evelyn; one grandson Scott Craig Barry; one great grandchild in infancy, one sister: Norma "Jackie" Barry and one brother John Barry.

Family and friends may assemble on Tuesday September 20, 2011 at 1:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. A procession will then depart at 1:30 to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, where full Military Honors provided by the Abraham Lincoln National Honor Squad and the United States Coast Guard, as well as committal services will be conducted at 2:00PM.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Maurice's memory to the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno or The Disabled American Veterans.
