Age 89 of Wilmington and formerly Lockport passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home in Joliet.

Born August 24, 1924 in Grantsburg, Illinois, Mary was a daughter of the late Burton and Rose Clare Grimes-Pollard. On June 7, 1943, she married Philip J. Woock in St. Louis, Missouri and he preceded her in death. Mary was a member of the Methodist Church and the Lioness Club. She started the first cab company, Lockport Taxi, in 1953 and was a cab driver until 1957. Mary worked at the Nibble Nook in Lockport for fifteen years and in the cafeteria at the Lockport High School. She had a true love of family enjoying her children, grandchildren and caregiver to her husband, Philip. Mary was a second mother to everyone and never knew a stranger. She would gladly extend worldly advice. She was well known for her wit and humor.

Survivors include her four children: Philip (Betty) Woock of Lockport, Barbara Ann (John) Griffin of Lockport, Renee (Jack) Fredendall of Wilmington and Thomas (Karen) Woock of Cook, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; four brothers and sisters: numerous nieces and nephews as well as special friend: Clara Hill of Coal City.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband; six brothers and sisters and a loving companion and friend: George Sartore.

Per Mary's request cremation rites have been accorded.

Inurnment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois with her husband.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Mary's memory to Sunny Hill Nursing Home, 421 Doris Avenue, Joliet, IL 60433 and Vitas Hospice 3033 West Jefferson Street, Suite 204 Joliet, IL 60435.
