Mary Stout

Mary (nee Brockhouse) Stout

Age 94 of Coal City, formerly Wilmington, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday October 15, 2014 at Miller Rehabilitation Center in Kankakee.

Born February 29, 1920 in Morgan County, Mary was a daughter of Paul L. and Clarice E. (nee Caywood) Brockhouse. She was raised in Concord, and would go on to graduate from Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville with the class of 1938. On June 29, 1940, Mary married Glenn A. Stout in Bowling Green, Missouri. She was a room mother for Booth Central School in Wilmington, Girl Scout leader for Troop #59, first aid instructor and band builder booster, as well as being a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church. Mary loved crocheting and cardinals, and was active in local politics, and would drive those who needed assistance to the polling booths on Election Day.

Survivors include her daughter Glenda Marie Stout of Coal City; granddaughter Kerri (Robert) Bennett of Denham Springs, Louisiana; great grandson Dakota Bennett; sister Glenoid Gregory of Denham Springs, Louisiana; God given children: Andrew and Jonnie Morton of Wilmington; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends: Richard Elberts and Chris Doty, both of Coal City and Gloria Swanson of Wilmington.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years Glenn; parents; one daughter: Cheryl E. Stout; two brothers: Paul J. and Donald Brockhouse; dear friends: Lucille Elberts and Ella Mae Adami, and her beloved Sheltie, Penny.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington, where Mary will be laid to rest with her husband. Godchild Jonnie Morton will officiate. Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Mary's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Association or the Wounded Warrior's Project.
