Mary Planeta
Age 79 and a lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away Saturday morning January 14, 2012 at her home.
Born October 24, 1932 in Coal City, Mary was a daughter of the late Harry and Mary Chada-Bittner. She was a 1950 graduate of Coal City High School, and on April 22, 1951 married Eugene Planeta in Coal City. Mary worked with her uncle at Chada's Greenhouse for many years and later gained employment serving the Coal City Police Department as a dispatcher until her retirement. She was a member of the Coal City United Methodist Church and in past years enjoyed playing bingo. Mary will be remembered for her passion of needlework.
Survivors include her children: Jean (Bob) Koerner, Gary (Janet) Planeta and Jerry (Cathy) Planeta, all of Coal City; six grandchildren: Ann (Eric) Kodat of Mazon, Charlie (Ann) Koerner of Oswego, Chad (Valynda) Planeta of Mazon, Brock (Nikki) Planeta of Carbon Hill, Brandi Planeta of Davenport, Iowa and Shawn Planeta of Winter Park, Florida; seven great grandchildren: Abby Kodat, Austin Planeta, Magen Planeta, Nyah Planeta, Adyson Planeta, Cara Planeta and Camryn Planeta; one sister Anne (the late Harold) Lockhart of Arizona; two sisters-in-law: Carol Planeta of Texas and Patricia Planeta of Coal City and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her very dear friend Ed Nowman of Coal City.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband Eugene on January 27, 2004, two grandchildren in infancy; one sister LaVerne (William) Vaughn and one brother-in-law Richard Planeta.
The family will receive friends at the Coal City United Methodist Church 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City, Tuesday January 17, 2012 from 4:00PM until time of Life Celebration 6:00PM. Dr. Thomas Logsdon will officiate and a meal provided by the Friendship Circle will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.
A private family inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Mary will be laid to rest with her husband Eugene.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Mary's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Waterstone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431 or Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road, Coal City, Illinois 60416.
