Mary Macaluso
(nee Korelc)
Age 98 of Coal City, passed away Friday May 10, 2013 at Heritage Health in Dwight. Born March 16, 1915 in Carbon Hill, Mary was a daughter of the late Martin and Anna Smreker-Korelc. She was raised in Carbon Hill and on November 1, 1941, Mary married Joseph A. "Pep" Macaluso in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Mary was a member of the Slovenian Society, the VFW Women's Auxiliary and owned and operated Pep's Home Liquor Store from 1961-1980. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and quilting.
Survivors include her son: Joseph (Jean) Macaluso and daughter: Mary Jo (Steve) Monroe both of Coal City; seven grandchildren: Chad (Mary) Macaluso, Jolene (Jim) Giaudrone, Renee Macaluso and Robert Schmitt Jr. (Michelle Hanley), all of Coal City, Jeffrey (Sarah) Schmitt of Indiana, Brad (Gina) Schmitt of Willow Springs and Stephanie Monroe (FiancAC. Matthew Schultz) of Nebraska; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one brother Ed Korelc of Marissa, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, and seven brothers and sisters: Ann Perry, Martin Korelc, Francis Berta, Ursula Hazelton, John Korelc, Melvin Korelc and Jen Olden.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday May 13, 2013 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral Services will follow on Tuesday May 14th at 10:00AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with The Very Reverend Joseph Tapella and Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wilmington.
Pallbearers will be: Chad Macaluso, Robert Schmitt, Jr., Jeffrey Schmitt, Brad Schmitt, Matthew Schultz and Justin Giaudrone
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Assumption Building Fund or for Masses in Mary's memory.
