M. Elizabeth (Tetterton) Hughes

Age 102 of Kankakee and formerly of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away January 7, 2014.. She was born December 4, 1912 in Plymouth, North Carolina and had recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was a distinguished World War II veteran having served in the United States Coast Guard. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph (1999), her parents Della (Tucker) and Claude Tetterton, brothers Dale, Joseph and sister Janice (Hubert) Britton.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Claudia (Muneo) Hamano, Al (Karen) Britton, Ken (Sharon) Britton, Sara (Frank) Burton, Dale (Nancy) Tetterton, Charlotte (David) Tetterton, Darrell (Carolyn) Tetterton, Dean (Anita) Tetterton, special nephews on her husband's side, Daryl (Jane) Smith and Gerald (Ann) Ahrens, and dear friend Deborah Riordan.

Elizabeth was a very accomplished woman. She was a graduate of Louisburg College, and worked in accounting. Her hobbies included sewing, handiwork, finishing of Grandfather clocks made by her husband, and horticulture. She was an expert in working with staghorn ferns. She was affiliated with the Methodist church in Ft. Myers where she volunteered in the resale shop. She was loved and respected by all those who knew her.

Elizabeth will be interred in the Veterans National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida. A memorial service will be held in Illinois at a later date.

Cremation services were made under the direction and care of Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington. (815-476-2181)
