Marvin Joseph Gagliardo
Age 83 and a lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away Friday evening June 17, 2011 at his home.
Born February 15, 1928, Marvin was a son of the late Joseph and Bertha La Zier-Gagliardo. He was raised in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1946. Marvin married Cleo Brooks in Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Dwight and she survives. On January 14, 1952, Marvin entered into the United States Army and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class on September 19, 1953, with two Purple Hearts, and immediately proceeded into service with the National Guard. Marvin was employed as a painter and decorator for various contractors throughout the Chicagoland area; prior to establishing M. Gagliardo Painting and Decorating, which he owned and operated for 20 years until his retirement. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, VFW Cantigny Post 367 in Joliet and the Painter's Local Union. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and antiques. He can also be remembered for his antique car restorations, wood working and furniture refinishing.
Survivors include his wife Cleo; two daughters: Debra (Henry) Condotti of Shorewood and Patricia (Scott) Davis of Neenah, Wisconsin; grandchildren: Ashley (Erik) Umbrasas of Villa Park, Nicholas Condotti of Shorewood, Sarah Davis of North Chicago, Seth Davis of Madison, Wisconsin and Christopher Condotti of Chicago; one sister Dolores Hertenstein of Coal City and one sister-in-law Patti Gagliardo of Joliet.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Maynard Gagliardo and one niece Gina Boresi.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday June 22, 2011 between the hours of 5:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Thursday June 23rd at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and Seth Davis, Nicholas Condotti, Scott Davis, Henry Condotti, Bill Boresi and Mike Taylor will act as pallbearers.
