Marion M. Hines
Age 87 of Wilmington, passed away Sunday evening August 24, 2014 at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
Born December 29, 1926 in Kinmundy, Illinois, Marion was a son of the late Otis and Ethel Amy Hines. He was raised and educated in the Salem area and moved to Wilmington in 1941. Marion honorably served in the United States Army during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. It was during his service time that he earned the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded a Silver Star, two Purple Hearts and several other medals and accolades. He worked for several trucking companies and retired from Superior Trucking. He was a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge, Wilmington VFW, and was a Master Mason with the A.F. & A.M. Wilmington Lodge #208. He enjoyed short walks with his Yorkie companion Rylie, and spent countless hours watching him play. Marion was a regular at the Chick-A-Dee, Michelle's, Wilmington House and The Whistle Stop, as well as Blues CafAC. in Kankakee. It was at these familiar places that he shared many meals with Ginger and his buddies, and will be remembered for always fighting for the bill. Everyone in town knew and liked Marion, and he will be greatly missed.
Marion is survived by one son Earl Eugene Hines and grandchildren of Wilmington, and leaves behind his long time loving companion Virginia "Ginger" Phillips of Wilmington; best friend of more than 32 years Eimo Norder of Watseka and several dear friends who he enjoyed sharing Saturday morning breakfast: Lee Springer, Al Pflibsen, Jimmy Carl, Jerry Stewart, Andy Stanton and Bill Locke.
Marion was preceded in death by his parents; brother Roy, sister Ruth and wife Mary (Johnson).
Services will be held on Friday August 29, 2014 in Alma Cemetery in Alma, Illinois. Full Military Honors and Masonic Services will be conducted graveside at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made as gifts in Marion's memory to the American Cancer Society.
