Age 81 of Gardner, passed away Wednesday September 24, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born February 1, 1933 in Gardner, Marilyn was a daughter of the late Peter C. and Vera (Porter) Hansen. She was raised in Gardner and on July 3, 1953, Marilyn married John R. Kociss in Morris. She worked as a postal clerk at the Gardner Post Office, and following retirement was a cook and greeter at Coaches Bar and Grill in Gardner from 1994 until 2000. Marilyn was a Chicago Cubs baseball fan, and will be remembered for her enjoyment of scratch off lottery tickets and playing bingo.

Survivors include three sons: Kevin (Nancy) Kociss and Kurt (Tracy) Kociss, both of Gardner and Kerry Kociss of Dwight; two daughters: Kim (Gerry) Von Qualen of Gardner and Kelly Midona of West Chicago; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and one sister Ina Tjelle of Lincoln, Illinois.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband John on January 14, 1993; five brothers and one sister.

A private family visitation was held at Reeves Funeral Home in Gardner.

Graveside services will follow Friday September 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, 7295 East Braceville Road in Braceville. Reverend Janet M. Chandler from Church of Hope in Gardner will officiate.

Pallbearers will be: Steve Schmidt, John Schmidt, Donald Schmidt, Kyle Kociss, Kent Kociss and Brian Hansen.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Marilyn's memory to Church of Hope, 202 N. Monroe Street, P.O. Box 248, Gardner, Illinois 60424 or to the Gardner Fire Department, 206 Depot Street, Gardner, Illinois 60424.
