Marie Y. Wilkinson

Age 84 of Mazon, passed away Saturday evening March 17, 2012 at her home.

Born May 25, 1927 in Morris, Marie was a daughter of the late Maurice and Mary McCormick-Burkhart. She was a 1941 graduate of Hamilton Grade School and a 1945 graduate of Mazon High School. She continued her education at Illinois State University in Normal, and on March 8, 1947, married Robert D. Wilkinson. Together Marie and Robert traveled half around the world while Robert was in the Military, living in Japan and Germany prior to returning to the United States where they resided in Texas, Indiana and Illinois. Marie retired from Verona Exchange Bank and was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star, where she was past Worthy Matron. She will be fondly remembered for the love of her flowers, gardening and especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children: Sandra L. (Dennis) Williams of Newark, Delaware, Roberta M. (Kenneth) Barnes of Dyer, Indiana, Daniel G. (Laurie) Wilkinson of Mazon and Tamara D. (Kevin) Halterman of Dwight; grandchildren: Patrick (Barb) Williams, Kristen Duhadaway, Brian (Tina) Barnes, Cynthia (Larry) Turnquist, Timothy (Joanna) Wilkinson, Eric (Amber) Wilkinson, Kaitlyn Wilkinson, Samuel Halterman and Lukas Halterman; (13) great grandchildren; brothers: Alan (Sandra) Burkhart and John (Lois) Burkhart and aunt and uncle: Bruce (Clare) Burkhart.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Francis and George.

Cremation rites have been accorded per Marie's wishes and there will be no visitation. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
