Marie Johnson

Age 90 of Wilmington, Illinois died Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at her home.

Born February 13, 1933 in Coal City, Illinois, Marie Eleanor was the only child of William and Rita (nee Rink) Novy. She was raised in Coal City and Wilmington, and graduated from Wilmington High School. She gained employment with Commonwealth Edison where she would meet her future husband, Robert Johnson. Marie worked several other jobs over the years, but she made taking care of her family and maintaining their home on the farm her number one priority. She was a lifelong animal lover, starting as a young girl when she would raise her own pony. Marie also raised and trained poodles, with several of them being shown and named champions. She loved to work in garden and care for her flowers, and was simply a gentle, giving person willing to help anyone that needed a hand.

Marie is survived by her son, Rick Johnson of Wilmington, and was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son: Rob Johnson.

Cremation rites are being accorded, and Marie will be privately laid to rest with her husband at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wilmington.
