Marie Hermes

Age 79 of Wilmington, passed away Saturday evening August 16, 2014 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born November 1, 1934 in Joliet, Marie Theresa was a daughter of the late Albert and Angela (Dwyer) Offerman. She attended Saint John's grade school in Joliet and went on to graduate from St. Francis Academy with the class of 1952. On November 27, 1954, Marie married Richard Hermes in St. John's Catholic Church in Joliet, and together they made their home in Wilmington. Marie worked for many years at Hickory Creek grocery store in Wilmington. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and was active in the CCW, who honored her as their Woman of the Year in 2002. Marie enjoyed traveling, especially to St. Pete's Beach, as well as playing cards. She will be remembered for her love of people, and her love for family and friends meant more to her than anything.

Survivors include her husband Richard; five children: Joe (Connie) Hermes and Dan (Laurie) Hermes of Wilmington, Rick (Colleen) Hermes of Goose Lake, Mary Kay (Larry) Cunnings of Wilmington and Carol (Bill) Harding of Merritt Island, Florida; (11) grandchildren: Michael (Jillian) Hermes, Scott (Karyn) Hermes, Matt (fiancAC. a�" Kim) Hermes, Beth (fiancAC. a�" Scot) Hermes, Chris Cunnings, Lauren (Brian) Deter, Casey Hermes, Barry Cunnings, Erin Harding, Katie Hermes and Garrick Harding; (5) great grandchildren: Autumn Hermes, Madalynn Hermes, Theresa Marie Hermes, Reese Marie Hermes and Alexis Marie Hermes, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jackie (the late John) Offerman, Gene (the late Angela) Williams, Patricia (Keith) Neville, Larry (Pat) Hermes and Kathy (the late Don) Keeley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Eric Cunnings; sisters: Jean (Pat) Gallagher and Angela Williams and brothers: Fr. Paul Offerman and John Offerman.

Per Marie's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

The family will receive friends on Thursday August 21, 2014 at Saint Rose Catholic Church, 604 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington from 9:00 a.m. until time of memorial service 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Revered Steve Bondi officiating.

Inurnment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Marie's memory to Kuzma Care Cottage, 635 South Main Street, Wilmington, Illinois 60481.
