Age 89 of Coal City passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 13th. She was born in Milbank, South Dakota to Jesse and Sarah Radtke Stengel on April 13, 1925. Marian attended North Central College in Naperville, IL, graduating with the class of 1947. Her career as a teacher brought her to Coal City, where she met her husband Ray. They were married on August 14, 1949, in Milbank and they spent their entire married life in Coal City. Marian enjoyed traveling, swimming, hiking, gardening and cooking. Marian was an active member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, and served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder.

She is survived by two sons, Greg (Paulette) of Ridgecrest, CA and Gary (Cathy) of Council Bluffs, IA, one daughter, Jennifer (David) of Buffalo Grove, IL, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arvid Stengel and husband.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Wednesday July 16th at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street, in Coal City from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 17th, 10:00 AM at New Hope Presbyterian Church. Reverend Jan Chandler will officiate. Burial will be in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marian's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation, or a charity of the donor's choice.
