Lois Geiss

Lois M. Geiss nee Erickson, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017 at her home.

Lois was born in Joliet to the late Oscar A. and Minnie (Kirchner) Erickson. She lived in Joliet until March 28, 1965 when she married Leon E. “Gene” Geiss and moved to Wilmington. Lois retired from Illinois Bell in 1981 after 25 years of service. She attended Elwood Community Church. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, and knitting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Lois is survived by her daughter Lois “Bunny” Hemphill; two grandchildren Jayson (Kristina) Hemphill of Woodstock and Rayna Brophy of Joliet; two great-grandchildren Taylar Grace and Braden Eugene Brophy; three sisters-in-law Margaret, Norma, and Adela Geiss as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Also survived by close family friend Jerry Nugent.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband “Gene” (2012); two brothers Edward Phillip (in infancy) and Robert F. (Eleanore) Erickson; six brothers-in-law LaVerne (Jewellane), Calvin, Ervin (Rose), Orville (Freida), Merle and Donald Geiss.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home followed by interment at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held Thursday 3-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Elwood Community Church in Lois’ name would be appreciated.
