"Les"
Age 90 of Wilmington, and a longtime resident of Leesburg, Florida, passed away Friday evening, January 2, 2015 at the home of his daughter in Minooka.
Born May 5, 1924 in Wesley Township, Les was a son of Arthur and Josephine Shenk-Sorensen. He was raised and educated in Wesley Township, and on August 8, 1947, Les married Shirley Ragain in Kankakee. He was a farmer in Wesley Township, but also held employment with the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant and owned and operated Sorensen Trucking. Farming and trucking were Les' true passion, but he also enjoyed fishing in his spare time.
Survivors include his four children: Kathleen (Jerry) Klein of Minooka, Janet (Robert) Travis of Eustis, Florida, Gary (Pat) Sorensen of Groveland, Florida and Al Sorensen of Wilmington; five grandchildren: Todd (Lisa) Holmes of Wilmington, Kari (Kenneth) Baker of Joliet, Ciara and Skylar Sorensen of Groveland, Florida and Traci (Curtis) Creech of Eustis, Florida; eight great grandchildren: Jack and Abby Holmes, Kelsea, Kannon and Kadi Baker, and Cayden, Taylor and Candace Creech; one brother: Eugene Sorensen of Bourbonnais; brothers and sisters-in-law: Margaret Ragain, Larry (Sharon) Ragain, Richard (Mary Ellen) Ragain and George (Doris) Ragain, all of Wilmington, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful canine companion Teddy.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, grandson Nicklos Travis, brothers: Calvin (Josephine) Sorensen and Joseph (Alice) Sorensen; father and mother-in-law: Miskel and Margie Ragain; brother-in-law Gerald Ragain and nephew Donald Ragain.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Tuesday January 6, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service 12:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington where Les will be laid to rest with his wife Shirley.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Les' memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Foundation.
