Leroy Edward Aldrich
Age 85 of Aurora, passed away Thursday evening September 29, 2011 at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.
Born July 5, 1926 in Ottawa, Leroy was a son of late Nelson and Theresa Geetch-Aldrich. He attended schools in Streator, and was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II from 1943-1946. It was during his tenure in the Navy that Leroy served with the Pacific Aircraft Carrier Unit in the Philippine and Marshall Islands prior to his honorable discharge as a Seaman First Class. He was a recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Honorable Service Medal. Leroy farmed in the Newark area and also worked for Thor Power Company in Aurora, from where he retired as a Tool Die Maker after 35 years. On August 27, 1977, Leroy married Rose Eileen Olson in Park Place Baptist Church in Montgomery, and she survives. Leroy was a member Park Place Baptist Church in Montgomery, as well as the VFW, where he was active with the Color Guard. He enjoyed participating in church activities, square dancing, fishing, camping and playing euchre. Leroy can also be remembered for the time spent playing games with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife Rose; six children: Edward (Margie) Aldrich, Ronald (Nancy) Aldrich and Vern Aldrich all of Morris, Danny (Cindy) Aldrich of Sandwich and Mark (Lori) Aldrich and April (Kevin) Fauth, both of Aurora; three step children: William (Jane) Brickert of Big Rock, Donna (Louie) Nauman of Yorkville and Diane McCant of New York; five grandchildren: Barry (Janelle) Aldrich, Ryan (Amy) Aldrich, Joe (Stacy) Malfatti, April Aldrich and Perry Wood: eight great grandchildren; two brothers Howard (Mary) Aldrich of Montgomery and Richard (Luna) Spraggon of Newark and one sister Mary Lou Aldrich of Mazon, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons: Nicholas Aldrich and Elliott Aldrich; one step-daughter Eileen Asher; one step-son: Jeff Best; two brothers: Larry and Melvin and one sister Suzie.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday October 3, 2001 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 11:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 E. Washington St. (one block East of Illinois Route 47) in Morris.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at 12:30PM. Pallbearers will be: Barry Aldrich, Ryan Aldrich, Drew Aldrich, Adam Nauman, Christen Futua and Rob Lambert.
