Leonard M. Wills

Age 91 of Coal City, passed away Friday morning February 20, 2015 at Morris Hospital.

Born August 6, 1923 on the family farm in Mazon Township, Leonard was a son of the late John O. and Ethel (Jackson) Wills. He was raised and educated in Coal City, and graduated from Coal City High School. Leonard honorably served in the United States Air Force, and on October 10, 1948, he married Dorothy Alice Planeta in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Leonard worked as a mechanic for Varland International Harvester in Morris, and later retired from Dart Chemical Company after more than 20 years of service. Leonard was a charter member of the Coal City Area Club. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, watching the water skiers at the Area Club, and fixing anything that needed repair. Leonard will be remembered for cherishing the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include two sons: Gary (Mary Lou) Wills of Barnwell, South Carolina and Roger (Linda) Wills of Coal City; six grandchildren: Andrew (Sally) Wills of Simpsonville, SC, Matthew Wills of Barnwell, SC, Jason Wills of Jacksonville, FL, Roger (Kelly) Wills of Huntsville, AL, Tina Harris of Scottsboro, Alabama and Russell (Candace) Wills of Newton, Illinois; great grandchildren: Katherine "Reyn", Mia Elizabeth, Joey, Josh, Mason, Michael, Austin, Seth, Payton, Sidney, Austin and John Mikal; three brothers: Elvin (Dorothy) Wills of Coal City, Norman (JoAnn) Wills of Platteville, Wisconsin and Paul (Emilie) Wills of Coal City, and two sisters-in-law: Esther Wills of Coal City and Martha Jean Wills of Mazon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy on October 12, 2001; grandson Joey and brothers: John Wills, Kenneth (Margie) Wills and Donald Wills.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2015 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Tuesday morning February 24th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Braceville Gardner Cemetery, where Leonard will be laid to rest with his late wife Dorothy.

Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Leonard's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
