Leonard McCubbin, Sr.
Age 88 of Channahon and formerly of Braidwood, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, November 23, 2015 at Morris Hospital.
Born January 26, 1927 in Webster County, Iowa, Leonard Charles was a son of the late William and Gladys Marie (Vote) McCubbin. He was raised and educated in Iowa until moving to Minnesota, where he graduated from Princeton High School. Leonard went on to serve stateside in the United States Army until being honorably discharged in October of 1947. On October 19, 1955, Leonard married Erma Jones in Springfield, Missouri. He was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet, from where he retired after more than 25 years of service. Leonard enjoyed gardening and yard work, and will be remembered for always working on a project.
Survivors include his loving wife Erma; three children: Leonard McCubbin, Jr. (Connie Forsythe) of Wilmington, Susan (Rod) Lynch of O’Fallon, Illinois and Albert (Mitzi) McCubbin of Minooka; six grandchildren: Leonard McCubbin, III of Joliet, Bridget (Michael) Margenthaler of Pennsylvania, Brandi (Jason) Kluck of Morris, Amanda (Josh) Szymanski of O’Fallon and Heather McCubbin and Dustin McCubbin, both of Minooka; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Chris McCubbin.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 1:00 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Burial with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Leonard’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
