Leonard J. Bols

Age 94 of Aux Sable Township, Minooka, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at Park Pointe in Morris.

Born January 30, 1920 in Morris, Leonard was a son of the late John and Catherine (Broderick) Bols. On February 14, 1944, Leonard married Winona Davies in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris. Together they farmed and raised their family in the rural Morris and Minooka area. Leonard farmed his entire life, and early on raised registered Holstein dairy cattle. Thereafter he focused on grain farming with his son until retiring. Leonard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minooka, The Minooka Lions Club, and in years past belonged to the Pure Milk Association. He served on the Grundy County Board for 28 years, where he was both chairman and vice chairman for many years. Leonard worked on various committees during his tenure, and will be most remembered for being chairman of the Grundy County Building Commission, which designed and oversaw the construction of the current Grundy County Administrative Building. A very civic minded man, Leonard also served as Aux Sable Township Supervisor for 36 years and was a former board member with the Grundy County Farm Bureau. In his free time, Leonard bowled on a Monday night league, loved to dance and play cards, and took pleasure in golf and woodworking.

Survivors include his children: Kathy (Dan) Friant and Bernie (Debbie) Bols, both of Minooka and Kim Schaefer of Morris; (8) grandchildren: Jeff (Amy) Friant of Naperville, Kristin (Peter) Thomas of Schaumburg, Dave (Becca) Bols of Channahon, Kelly (Trent) Olson of Morris, Ryan Schaefer of Milwaukee, Nick Schaefer (Nicole Bromberek) of Mazon, Alan Schaefer of New York, NY and Brittany Schaefer of St Louis; (8) great grandchildren: Moira, Keegan and Keira Friant, Ellie and Owen Thomas and Mason, Caleb and Norah Bols, one sister Eleanor (the late Keith) Jackson of Manteno and one brother Edwin (Ruth) Bols of Morris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Winona on May 7, 2014, and two sisters: Frances (Howard) Clennon and Kathleen (Robert) Lawrence.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Friday November 28, 2014 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris. Funeral services will follow Saturday morning November 29th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, 303 West St. Mary's Street in Minooka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Tuan Van Nguyen officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minooka.

Pallbearers will be Leonard's grandchildren: Jeff Friant, Kristin Thomas, Dave Bols, Kelly Olson, Ryan Schaefer, Nick Schaefer, Alan Schaefer and Brittany Schaefer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Thomas and Rob Craig.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Leonard's memory to the Saint Mary's Major Maintenance Fund, or to a charity of the donor's choosing.
