Leila M. Vilt
Age 91 of Braceville, passed away Monday April 21, 2008 at Morris Hospital.
Born April 27, 1916 in Seattle, Washington, Leila was a daughter of the late Harry and Jessie (Waggoner) Mason. Leila moved to Joliet in 1924 and Ritchie in 1926, however lived most of her life in Coal City area. She was a graduate of Braidwood High School with the Class of 1934. On November 14, 1936 Leila married Edward Vilt and he preceded her in 1951. In 1957 she then married William "Puggy" Vilt and he too preceded her in 1978. Leila worked for Hyman and Granerts Clothing Factories, as well as the Little Pig Restaurant in Wilmington. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, Wesley Community Club and volunteered at Goose Lake Prairie for Prairie Partners. Leila loved the outdoors, hiking, fishing, camping, reading and quilting.
Survivors include two children: Michael (Marylynn) Vilt of Silver Springs, Florida and Janet (Steve) Talbot of St. Petersburg, Florida and one daughter-in-law Joyce Vilt of Bourbonnais. Two step-sons: Donald (Carol) Vilt of Braceville and William (Rena) Vilt of San Francisco, California. Two sisters: Florence (the late Laverne) Kennedy of Braceville and Marge (the late James) Anderson of Coal City. One brother Edward Kelly of Joliet; (10) Grandchildren: Edward (Candice) Vilt of Pontiac, Kjirsten (Scott) Engels and Debbie Vilt both of Bourbonnais, Trudy (Matthew) Spangler of Silver Springs, Florida, Terry Daily of Paris, Texas, Donald (Susan) Vilt of Plainfield, Gina (William) Clover of Coal City, Jenada (Dan) Kambric of Minooka and Jacob Vilt and Annika (Blake) Button both of San Francisco, California. (15) Great Grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Ella Mae Vilt and Verna Vilt, both of Coal City and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leila was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward in 1951 and husband William "Puggy" in 1978. One son Edward Vilt, one stepson Leonard Vilt; three sisters: Harriet (Arthur) Marcotte, Jean Kelly and Florence "Toots" (J.R.) Cushing and three brothers: Robert Kelly, Roy Kelly and Donald Kelly in childhood.
Visitation will be held on Friday April 25, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
Funeral services will follow on Saturday April 26th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Mike Pennock officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Leila's memory to the Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund, 245 South Kankakee Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416
