Lee W. Collier

Age 74 of Carbon Hill, passed away Saturday morning, April 22, 2017 at Morris Hospital.

Born April 16, 1943 in Chicago, Lee Wayne was a son of the late William and Bette Lu (Bohnenkamper) Collier. He was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1961. Lee honorably served in the United States Army, and on July 18, 1966, he married Donna Jean Phillips in Elizabeth City, New Jersey. Lee was active with Cub Scouts when his boys were young; belonged to the Coal City Area Club, and was a past board member of Carbon Hill. He retired from Lyondellbasell after 31 years of service, and in his free time enjoyed camping and traveling.

Survivors include five children: Robert J. (Terri) Collier of Deatsville, Alabama, Chris (Brenda) Collier of Coal City, Jonathon (Toni) Collier of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Phillip (Cassie) Collier of Coal City and Cathy Collier of Joliet; seven grandchildren: Ashley Collier, Robert Collier, Jr., Ryan Collier (fiancé Megan Hanovcak), Baylee Collier, Amanda Collier, Brenden Collier and Alexas Collier; one brother Tom Collier of Las Vegas, Nevada and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Pat and Richard Zelinko of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and wife Donna Jean on November 27, 2009.

The family will receive friends on Thursday morning, April 27th from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Reverend Brad Shumaker from Coal City United Methodist Church will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where Lee will be laid to rest with his late wife Donna.

Pallbearers will be: Robert Collier, Chris Collier, Jonathon Collier, Phillip Collier, Ryan Collier and Brenden Collier.

Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Lee’s memory to his family for distribution to local charities of their choosing.
