"Larry"
Age 84 of Carbon Hill, passed away Sunday August 8, 2010 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.
Born October 23, 1925 in Kankakee, Larry was a son of the late Harry, Sr. and Caroline Motta-Wickman. He was raised and educated in Braidwood and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II (1943-1947). He was employed at UniRoyal and retired from the Laborers Union Local 75. On March 22, 1968, Larry married Thelma (nee Born) in Ottawa and together they lived their entire married life in Carbon Hill. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City, Braidwood American Legion Post #39, where he served as past commander and Coal City V.F.W. Post #1336. Larry was also a member and served as past Grand Knight of the Braidwood Knights of Columbus Council #1574 and was a 4th Degree Knight with the Kankakee Council of the Knights of Columbus. His other memberships included: Illinois LST Association, the National LST Association and the Illinois Starcraft Camping Club. Larry can be remembered for his love of fishing, golfing, camping and listening to music. He was also a great Chicago Cub's fan.
Survivors include his wife Thelma; children: Gary (Kathryn) Wickman of Washington, Kathi Brewer or Braidwood, Charlene (Tom) Connolly of Sheridan, Illinois, Chris (Pam) Joneson of Morris, Carol (Dan) Green of Aurora and Cindy (Paul) Joneson-Hintze of Diamond; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother Harry Wickman, Jr. of Morris; aunt Bernice Motta of Joliet and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carol (Don) Klegman, sister-in-law Billie Wickman and nephews: Terry Wickman and Steve Wickman.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday August 11th between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Thursday August 12th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by the Morris Color Guard will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
Preferred Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Larry's memory to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activities Fund, 1 Veteran's Drive, Manteno, Illinois 60950 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
