Age 61of Wilmington, Illinois, died unexpectedly Friday, April 18, 2025 at her home.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on April 7, 1964, Kristine was the beloved daughter of Michael and Judith (Tuohy) Matkovich. Raised in Bridgeview, she graduated from Argo Community High School with the Class of 1982.
Kris built a life rooted in hard work, creativity, and connection. She held a variety of jobs throughout Wilmington, but was best known and most cherished in her role at McDonald’s as a McCafe Specialist. Adorned with her pin-covered visor and ever-present smile, she brought warmth and joy to countless members of the community, forming bonds that extended far beyond the restaurant.
A true people person, Kris had an innate artistic flair; a passion for creativity, and was a talented baker. Outside, she found peace and purpose tending to the garden and fishing pond, cultivating beauty and nourishment from the earth with love and care.
Kris was known for her strong spirit and unwavering dedication. She wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and she never backed down from a challenge. She stood up for others without hesitation and could always be counted on to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or simply be there when someone needed her most.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her parents, Mike and Judy Matkovich, and son, Andy Stanton, all of Wilmington; grandson, Wyatt Rampa Stanton; sister, Kathleen Lynn Volling of Crest Hill, Illinois and brother, Michael J. Matkovich of Joliet, Illinois, as well as her former husband and the father of her son, Randy Stanton.
Kris was preceded in death by her grandparents: Hazel and Bill Tuohy and Anna and Pete Matkovich.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington, on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A private family service will follow.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Kris’ memory to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
