Kenneth Peterson died May 3, 2012 from long-term complications of a heart attack he suffered on Christmas Day 2007. Despite a lifetime of health problems and personal challenges, he always maintained a cheerful and positive attitude.
Ken was a lifelong resident of Joliet, graduating from JTHS in 1963. His work at Western Electric began his career in the electrical field. He had fond memories of the Cushman Eagle he had when he was younger, and had looked forward to riding his "retirement Harley". He enjoyed music (especially the Eagles), photography, gardening, and the outdoors. He felt a true kinship with native Americans and their traditions.
Ken was preceded in death by his father Richard and his mother Mary Louise. He is survived by two sons, Eric (Mandy Jenkins) and Nathan (Gina) Peterson, grandson Alec Peterson, and brother Doug (Joan) Peterson. The family owes special thanks to Autumn Country Club, which provided comfort and care to Ken in the early stages of his illness, and to the kind and compassionate staff at Salem Village Nursing & Rehab for his recent care.
Per Ken's request, his family will take his remains on a final visit to the mountains of Colorado.
"O, Great Spirit, Whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world; you have let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. You have let me walk in beauty, and made my eyes ever behold the red & purple sunset. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, may my spirit come to you without shame."
