Kenneth E. DeGrush
"Curley"
Age 98 of Coal City, passed away Saturday May 5, 2012 at Heritage Health in Dwight.
Born October 04, 1913 in Mazon, Curley was a son of the late Forrest and Louella Steinberger-DeGrush. He was raised and educated in the rural schools of Mazon and on March 4, 1941, Curley married Lucille Bottino in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Shortly after marriage they together moved to Coal City where they spent the remainder of their married life. Curley entered into the United States Marine Corp during World War II and honorably served in the Pacific Theater of Operations as a cook. He owned and operated the Coal City Bakery for over 25 years and was a member of the Coal City VFW and the Coal City Area Club. Curley greatly enjoyed hunting, especially duck hunting, fishing, gardening and horse racing. He will also be remembered for his love of cooking.
Survivors include his two children: Dianne (Ron) Marketti of Coal City and David (Kim) DeGrush of Wheaton; three grandchildren: Tony Marketti of Texas, Gina (Mark) Williams of Tinley Park and Leo (Kelly) Marketti of Naperville; (3) great grandchildren: Danny Marketti, Tommy Marketti and Robert Marketti; two brothers: Eugene "Pee Wee" DeGrush and Howard "Shorty" DeGrush, and one sister Eleanor Phillips all of Coal City; one sister-in-law: Mabel DeGrush of Carbon Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.
Curley was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lucille in 1968; five brothers: Vernon (Dorothy) DeGrush, Hap (Louise) DeGrush, Barney (Jen) DeGrush, Wayne DeGrush and Lyle (Dorothy) DeGrush; two sisters: Evelyn Wendell and Gladys (Warren) Trotter and two sisters-in-law: Addy DeGrush and Margaret DeGrush
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held Saturday May 12, 2012 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 11:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Reverend Robert Noesen from Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City will officiate, and burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood.
Pallbearers will be: Leo Marketti, Tony Marketti, Mark Williams, Bob Phillips, Terry Phillips, Louie Campo and Paul Onorato
Preferred memorials may be made to Unit #1 Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 177, Coal City, Illinois 60416, where it is the wishes of the family to establish a Culinary Arts Scholarship.
