Age 80 of Moline, formerly of Coal City, passed away Monday morning, February 23, 2015 in Wilmington.

Born April 29, 1934 in Chicago, Joyce was a daughter of the late Charles Stanley and Grace (Victor) Bitner-Nelson. She was raised and educated in Coal City, where she graduated from Coal City High School with the class of 1952. On November 21, 1953, Joyce married Earl E. Vaughn, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2005. Joyce began her career with the US Government right out of high school, and worked at the Joliet Arsenal until moving to Moline upon the closing of the Joliet facility. She was employed as a ammunition specialist, and retired after 34 years of service. Following her retirement, Joyce enjoyed wintering in Arizona. She was a former member of the Coal City United Methodist Church, was a Roy Rogers fan who loved horses, and will be remembered for her love of anything red.

Survivors include her son Skyler (Vicky) Vaughn of Coal City; one granddaughter: Courtney (Eric) Ferrara of Morris, and her three sisters: Joan (Grady) Grice of Coal City, Jackie (Richard) Mizeur of Florida and Judy Stanley of Moline.

Cremation rights have been accorded, and a private family graveside service will be held in Greenview Memorial Gardens in Moline.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joyce's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Grundy County Humane Society.
