M. Joyce Plume
(nee Wade)
Age 77 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday January 19, 2010 at her home.
Born January 20, 1932 in Jersey County, IL, Joyce was a daughter and one of fifteen children to the late Heber and Mable Ayers-Wade. She was a graduate of Jerseyville Community High School and Western Illinois University, where she majored in Home Economics Education. She later earned her Masters degree from University of Illinois and taught home economics at Wilmington High School from 1956-1963. It was in 1966 she joined the Joliet School System, from where she retired in 1989.
Joyce's pleasant childhood experience on the farm while growing up gave her an appreciation for gardening, watching birds, nature, traveling, reading, gourmet cooking and oil painting. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Wilmington, where she sang in the choir, participated in Sunday School and Bible Studies, as well as was a member of the United Methodist Women's Group. Joyce was a member and past president of Chapter OK PEO, and because of her heritage was a member of the The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include her husband Walter J. Plume, whom she married on June 28, 1958; two sons: Lloyd (Kwi-Suk) Plume of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Leslie (Laura) Plume of Madison, Alabama; four grandchildren: Kenny, Ryan, Leah and Savannah; four sisters: Laura Jamison, Mary Stillar, Ida May (Jacob) Pickle, and Ruth Cook, all of Jerseyville, IL, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Esther Yocom, Florence Butler, Irene Sample, Virginia Wendt, Helen Sunn and James, Charles, Everett, Lee and Robert Wade.
Visitation will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church, 401 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday January 22, 2010 between the hours of 3:00PM and 8:00PM and Saturday January 23rd from 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service 2:00PM. Pastors Hyu Jae Lee and Mi-Sook Yoo will officiate and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery Sunset Addition in Wilmington.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Joyce's memory to the 1st United Methodist Church of Wilmington, Joliet Area Community Hospice or Wilmington High School Foundation for Excellence.
