Age 87 of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Friday June 22, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on her family farm in Vienna, Illinois on February 12, 1920, Josie was a daughter of the late John W. and Nora (Comer) Carter. She was a graduate of Vienna High School with the Class of 1938 and in November of the same year she married Paul L. Burton in Missouri. Together John and Josie moved to Wilmington in 1940 and were the former owners of Burton's CafAC. for many years. In 1954 they became head of the food services and maintenance at the new Wilmington High School, remaining there until their retirement. Josie was dedicated to her family and was always doing those "special things" of a Mom and Maw-Maw.

Josie is survived and greatly missed by her son Tom (Judy) Burton of Florida; daughter Paula (Butch) VanDuyne of Wilmington; seven grandchildren: Dennis (Lauren) Vice, Jason Hendron, Sheri (Mickey) Hannum, Steve Burton, Lisa (Nandi) Narine, Jenny (Steve) Urban and David (Megan) VanDuyne; (16) great grandchildren: Elise and Holly Vice, Emily and Joey Hannum, Conor Burton, Nick, Max, Ava and Jack Narine, Jade Teagan, Sami and Brody Urban and Taylor, Neve and Reese VanDuyne and one brother Otto Carter of Herrin, Illinois.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul (1991), daughter Janet (1992) and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday June 25, 2007 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM and Tuesday June 26th from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 10:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Route 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington. Rev. David Lagos-Fonseca and Rev. Shirley Pulgar-Hughes from the First United Methodist Church of Wilmington and Deacon Donald Dyer from Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington will officiate.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Josie's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431, First United Methodist Church of Wilmington, 401 East Kahler Road, Wilmington, Illinois 60481 or Saint Rose School, 626 South Kankakee Street, Wilmington, Illinois 60481.
