Age 80 and a lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away Thursday March 3, 2011 at his home.

Born August 10, 1930 in Coal City, Joseph was a son of the late Domenic and Julia Peredetto-Bertoglio. He was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1948 and served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 10, 1961, Joe married Janice Phillips in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and she preceded him in death on August 29, 1993. Joe spent his entire career working at Bailey Printing in Coal City. During his employment with Bailey's Joe worked both as a print setter, as well as bookkeeper, retiring in December of 2010. Joe was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City and was a charter member of the Coal City Emergency Squad. He was a tremendous Cincinnati Red's fan and enjoyed traveling. Joe can be remembered as a great Dad, Grandpa, Brother and overall true family man. He was a very selfless person and always had a genuine concern in taking care of those to whom he could lend a hand.

Survivors include his two daughters: Marianne (Dean) Melvin and Lori Pierard, both of Coal City; five grandchildren: Craig (Cindy) Pierard and Matthew Melvin, both of Coal City, Bryan Pierard of Madison, Wisconsin and Katie Melvin and Tim Pierard of Coal City; two great grandchildren: Dalton Dugan and Laynah Pierard; two sisters: Margaret (the late John) Adams and Lucille (the late Bill) Wolfe, both of Coal City; five brothers and sisters-in-law: Sharon (the late Domenic) Bertoglio of Aurora, Phyllis (the late Jack) Phillips, Joe (Pat) Phillips and Karen (David) Togliatti, all of Coal City and Mike Phillips of Wilmington, and his dear friend of 73 years: Sheridan (Marilyn) Bailey of Coal City, as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; cherished wife Janice and one brother Domenic Bertoglio.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Sunday March 6, 2011 between the hours of 2:00PM and 6:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Monday March 7th at 9:30AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Robert Noesen and burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Braidwood.
