John Schmalz, Sr

John G. Schmalz, Sr.

Age 69 of Wilmington, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at his home.

Born June 11, 1944 in Joliet, John was the son of the late Earl and Margaret O’Connor-Schmalz. He was raised in Wilmington and was a 1962 graduate of Wilmington High School. John honorably served in the United States Army during Vietnam and he later retired from the steel mill, where he worked as a brick layer.

Survivors include his son John (Glenda) Schmalz, Jr. of Alabama; grandchildren: John T. Schmalz of Louisiana and Joshua (Erin) Schmalz of California; brother Willie Schmalz of Louisiana; niece Stacie Schmalz, and his special friend Geri Bosnak, both of Wilmington.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Earl Schmalz, Jr.

Inurnment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Friday April 4, 2014 at 10:00AM. Family and friends who wish to attend the graveside honors are requested to assemble at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Friday at 9:00AM. A Procession will then depart at 9:30AM.
