John J. Nars

Age 86 of Goose Lake, passed away Tuesday May 12, 2009 at his home.

Born April 10, 1923 in Chicago, John was a son of the late Andrew and Anna Nowak-Ignarski. He was raised and educated in Chicago and was a graduate of Tilden Tech with the Class of 1942. John was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force and served his Country during World War II as a tail gunner in the Pacific Theater. He was the lone survivor when his plane was shot down over Burma. On June 16, 1945 John married Geraldine DePatie in Chicago and together they have lived in Goose Lake since moving from Chicago in 1975. John was a life Member of the Morris Moose #967, the Morris American Legion and Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. John enjoyed fishing and golfing, and always loved his annual trip to his Winter home in Florida. He will always be remembered by his family and friends for his kind, loving ways and his warm sense of humor.

John was a devoted and loving husband of 64 years to Geraldine; beloved father to: Rodney (Irene) Nars of Chicago, David (Diane) Nars of Goose Lake and Thomas (Lisa) Nars of Wheeling; proud and loving grandfather of Dawn (fiancAC. -George Anyfiotis) Nars, Ian Nars, Anna Nars and Ethan Nars; brother-in-law to Ronald (Donna) DePatie of Naples, Florida and LeRoy (Barbara) DePatie of Martin, Georgia and Uncle to several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leo Ignarski and sister Marion Pawlak.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Thursday May 14, 2009 between the hours of 3:00PM and 9:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.

Funeral services will follow on Friday May 15th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Ron Hart officiating.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Morris Color Guard will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Morris. Rodney Nars, David Nars, Thomas Nars, Ian Nars, Ronald DePatie and LeRoy DePatie will act as pallbearers.

Preferred memorial in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in John's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice or the Morris Moose Lodge #967.
