Age 82 of Wilmington and formerly Symerton, passed away Tuesday September 02, 2008 at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Manteno.

Born August 06, 1926, Jack was a son of the late Walter George and Sadie P. McGrath-Murdie. He was raised and educated in Wilton Center, was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and served our Country in the United States Navy. He married June Rose Long in St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, and farmed his entire life in the Symerton and Wilton Center area. Jack was retired from Uni-Royal and his memberships included St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington and the Will County Zoning Board. Jack truly loved farming and in his free time was an avid sports fan and supported the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.

Survivors include one son John (Denise) Murdie of Wilton Center; one daughter Mary Jo (Steven) Woodbury of Clarkston, Washington; eight grandchildren: John (FiancAC. Lauren Spivey), Linden, Jacob and Mary June Murdie and Katelyn, Jordan, Isaac and Jazmyne Woodbury and one brother-in-law Mike Long of Wilmington, as well as his special caregiver Ruth Chew of Wilmington.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife June Rose (2001); two sisters: Olive P. and Nema J. Murdie; his mother and father-in-law: Thomas and Marie Hermes-Long and brother-in-law Tommy Long.

Visitation will be held on Friday September 05, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 219 North Joliet Street (two blocks North of Illinois Route 53 / Baltimore Street) in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow on Saturday September 6th at 10:00AM in St. Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Steve Bondi and Deacon Don Dyer Officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Jacks memory to the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno; 1 Veterans Drive, Manteno, IL 60951.
