John D. Marx age 71, of Morris, Illinois, passed away June 16, 2024, at Lightways Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 7, 1953, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Robert A. and Ellen (Bratsch) Marx. He graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1972. He was a jack of all trades working many jobs, most recently as a semi-truck driver hauling grain.
He married his high school sweetheart, Debra (Deb) Vilt on February 17, 1973. They made their home in Morris, where they raised their family. He loved spending time with his family and friends; and in his younger days, camping and riding his motorcycles. He attended First Baptist Church of Morris. John never met a stranger and was known for his kind words and ready smile for everyone.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca ( Raymond) Barajas of Dickinson, N.D., four granddaughters, Lauren (Jean) Steyl, Abigail Sokolinski, Claire Barajas and Isabel Barajas; five great—grandchildren; Charlotte Price, Jeany Steyl, Elijah Steyl, Poitiea Price and Isaac Steyl. Also survived by his siblings, Robert (Kim), Karen (Gerald) Marshall, Jerry, Darrel (Lyn), and Dennis (Kris); numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eric, his parents, and his youngest brother, Ronald.
His body was donated to the Illinois Anatomical Gift Association. At his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. Preferred memorials may go to Lighways Hospice of Joliet, where he received excellent care from all the staff.
