Age 78 of Coal City, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, with his entire loving family at his side.

Born August 13, 1937 in Morris, John was a son of the late Anton "Red" and Rose (Persak) Manietta. He was raised in Coal City and graduated from Coal City HS with the Class of 1955. On February 19, 1958, John married Mary Phillips in El Paso, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. Aside from farming his entire life, John worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company for several years before going to work as a union lather and later retiring from the Carpenters Local #916. John was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City. He played on the Coal City hardball team and also played softball for many years. John was also involved in auto mechanics and restorations, and enjoyed antique cars and tractors. He also took pleasure in riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling and attending auctions. Also known as 'Mr. Fix-it", John was always there when you needed him and was happy to help others. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, John cherished spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife Mary; five sons: John R. Manietta of Plainfield, Ron (Debi) Manietta of Mazon, Joe Manietta of Chicago, Jason Manietta of Louisville, Kentucky and Matthew (Stefanie) Manietta of Channahon; his son-in-law Dennis Grosvenor of Coal City; five grandchildren: Tyler K. Mattila of Wakefield, Michigan, Jennie Rose and Dusty Manietta of Mazon and Sienna and Maddux Manietta of Channahon; two brothers: Raymond (Betty) Manietta and A.J. (the late Sue) Manietta; one sister Rosann Manietta and two sisters-in-law: Anne Manietta and Carol Onsen-Morin, all of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents: Anton "Red" and Rose (Persak) Manietta; mother and father-in-law: Ervin and Jennie Phillips; his daughter Lori Ann Grosvenor; his daughter-in-law, Ron's first wife: Bev Manietta; three brothers: Lawrence Manietta, Joseph Manietta and Carl "Butch" (Lois) Manietta; his twin sister Joann (Richard) Klover, and sisters and brothers-in-law: Marilyn (Gerald) Krell, Joan Shumacher, Leonard "Swede" Onsen and Ron Morin.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Thursday, February 18th at 10:00 a.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating.

Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and pallbearers will be: John Manietta, Ron Manietta, Joe Manietta, Jason Manietta, Matt Manietta and Dusty Manietta.
