John L. Kopczick
"Jack"
Age 73 of Morris, passed away December 26, 2009 at his home.
Born June 1, 1936 in Gardner, Jack was the son of the late John A. and Evelyn Christensen-Kopczick. He was raised and educated in Morris and honorably served his Country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Jack retired as a Sergeant from the Morris Police Department after 22 years of public service, and during his tenure he also held the position of Police Chief. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the John Martin Steele VFW Post 6049 in Morris. Jack liked to collect die cast airplanes and automobiles, as well as trains.
Survivors include his three children: Ronnie L. Kopczick of Springfield, MO, Naomi E. (Tom) Vest of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Jackie L. Kopczick of Bluford, IL; six grandchildren: Jason L. Kopczick of Sunbury, PA, Erick J (Kerry) Kopczick of Big Rock, TN, Amanda S. Kopczick of Sunbury, PA, Justin R. Jett of South Wilmington and Nicole Johnson and Tommy Vest, both of Port St. Lucie, FL.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents: John A. and Evelyn Christensen-Kopczick and the mother of his children: Eleanor N. (nee Kates) Kopczick.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and the family will receive friends on Thursday April 22, 2010 from 12:00 Noon until 1:45PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block East of Illinois Route 47) in Morris. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at 2:30PM in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with Deacon Robert T. Stansberry officiating.
