Age 73 of Carbon Hill, passed away Wednesday July 09, 2008 at his home.

Born October 12, 1934 in Chicago, John was a son of the late Miggo and Marjorie Nelson-Jensen. He was raised and educated in the Gardner area and attended Gardner-South Wilmington High School. On May 15, 1954 John married Louise Decker in the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City and together they resided in Carbon Hill. John was employed with U.S. Rubber as a Lineman prior to gaining employment with Kerr Glass Manufacturing in Plainfield, from where he retired as a Plant Maintenance Supervisor in 1997, after 40 years of service. John was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, was a former member of the Administrative Board of Carbon Hill for 24 years, which included 12 years as Mayor and was a founding member and president of the Carbon Hill Historical Society. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting, especially bow hunting, tinkering in his garage and working on the Carbon Hill Museum. John could truly be known as "Mr. Fix-it".

Survivors include his wife of 54 years: Louise; two children: Paula "Suzie" (Bob) Born of Coal City and Eric (Linda) Jensen of Morris; four grandchildren: Jeanine Pierard and Nick Born, both of Coal City and Erica Jensen and Brooke Jensen, both of Morris; three great grandchildren: Logan Pierard, Talya Pierard and Ariana Majic; three sisters: Alma (Leonard) Kisellus of Deerfield, Illinois, Nancy (Charles) Akin of Morris and Thora (Richard) Lohmar of Carbon Hill; one brother-in-law Kenneth (Joan) Decker of Coal City and two sisters-in-law: Linda (Walter) Bradley of Carbon Hill and Mary Decker of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents: Miggo and Marjorie Jensen; one brother-in-law Boyd Decker and one sister-in-law: Joyce (Charles) Sumner.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Friday July 11, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral Services will follow on Saturday July 12th at 10:00AM in the funeral home with Reverend Larry Boutelle from New Hope Presbyterian Church officiating.

Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery and pallbearers will be: Jeanine Pierard, Nick Born, Bob Born, Erica Jensen, Brooke Jensen and Ross Bradley.
