On the evening of December 7, 2024, the sky was filled with the most vibrant sunset. This was a beautiful sight that brought calm and peace to the hearts of the family and friends as Joe Cora, born May 20, 1968, passed away peacefully and pain-free later that evening.
Joe was a man, as the Bible references in 1 Corinthians, 9:22, that was all things to all people. Joe's love and forgiveness knew no bounds. When he loved you, he loved you with his whole self.
Joe was a hard worker. He ran his own roofing company, but some of his greatest work had nothing to do with earning a living. He did his best work when he was mentoring people who suffered with addiction or being a father figure to children who needed the guidance only a loving father could provide. He was a selfless man who cared about people. Joe was a kind and forgiving man. He was a dedicated son, loving brother, fun uncle and faithful friend.
Joe's greatest passion was for his family. Those whose hearts will forever be changed by his absence are his wife Lori Cora, his daughters Michaela Phillips (Matt Johnson), Alana Phillips and his baby girl, AnnMarie Cora; grandchildren, Macklan and Merrick (Squishy); his sisters Kathie (Doug) Favero, Teri Cora, and Jan (Mark) Keefer; mother-in-law RuthAnn, (the late James) Brady, father-in-law Larry Bushue. Also missing his smiling face are treasured nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Cora; father-in-law, James Brady, and brother-in-law Troy Bushue.
In Joe's final weeks and days in our midst, he enjoyed a “living funeral”. His days were filled with family and close friends who told stories, laughed with him, cried with him and shared loving words and hugs with him.
Cremation rights have been accorded. At his wishes, no public service will be held. The family will be honoring his wishes.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joe's memory to the family to establish an education fund for his youngest daughter, AnnMarie.
Family and friends are encouraged to sign the online guest book, upload photographs, and share Joe's memorial page via social media.
Cremation services and arrangements have been made under the direction and care of Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Homes and Crematory in Coal City (815) 634-2125.
