Age 91 of Coal City, Illinois died Saturday afternoon, June 1, 2024, at The ARC of Dwight.
Born December 24, 1932, in Morris, Illinois, Joan Elaine was a daughter of James and Kathryn (Chada) Little. She spent her formative years in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1950.
A pillar of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, Joan's voice graced the church choir for 73 years, embodying her steadfast faith and commitment to her community. Her professional journey saw her dedicate over 14 years to ComEd, where she concluded her career as a Customer Service Representative at the Briggs Street location in 1995.
Joan's adept hands created exquisite needlework with love, and she was renowned for baking grape tarts that brought joy to many. She was an avid reader and enjoyed yoga and water aerobics in the past. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Joan's legacy is one of kindness and love. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her children: Lynne (Ralph) Vanderhyden of Cainsville, Missouri, David (Denise) Stybr of Essex, Illinois, Tom (Kathy) Stybr of Wichita, Kansas and Beth (Mark) Dosier of Mooresville, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Allison (Louis) Graham of Oswego, Illinois, Adam (Natalie) Vanderhyden of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Kate (Zach) McGuire and Emily (Patrick) Burrus, both of Wichita and Rachel Dosier of Mooresville; five great grandchildren: Ethan, Emma and Emerson Graham and Gretchen and Molly Vanderhyden.
Joan was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Stybr in 1984.
Per Joan’s request, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway Street (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m. Rev. Jan Chandler will officiate, and a memorial luncheon will immediately follow at New Hope Presbyterian Church.
A private family inurnment will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Joan will be laid to rest with her daughter, Lisa.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Joan’s memory to New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street, Coal City, IL 60416.
