Jim Dover

Age 64 of Wilmington, Illinois, died Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois.

Born January 7, 1960 in Mississippi, James Edward was a son of Harold and Roberta (Fritz) Dover. He was raised in Wilmington, attended Wilmington schools, and entered into the trades and worked as a union roofer for over 30 years. In Jim’s spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors fishing and tending to his vegetable garden. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and took pleasure in playing baseball with his girls. Jim was a great father to his daughters, always making sure they were provided for.  He was a reliable presence to his children and to his friends, always available to anyone in need, and he cherished time spent with his best friend and granddaughter, Riley.

Survivors include two daughters: Sarah Dover of Wilmington and Erica Madding of Rockford, Illinois; several grandchildren, including Riley Shepherd of Wilmington; one sister, Pat Miller of Benton, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jacklyn Dover, and his brother and sister: Dean and Kay Dover.

Per his wishes, cremation rites are being accorded.
